1 PROBLEM SPECIFICATION
You are required to:
• Write a report that presents a collection of statements, each supported by a clear rationale, and an appropriate analysis of the relevant student survey data that is then used to either confirm or reject each statement. You should then draw conclusions and, if appropriate, suggest recommendations for each statement based on your results. There is not a fixed number of statements that you should investigate. You are only limited by the maximum word length for the report. An excellent report will include a variety of very advanced statistical analyses and thus you should try to avoid using multiple statements that require the same type of analysis to be applied. The data is presented in BIARESPONSES1516.xlsx.
• Produce Web pages that present three of your statements, rationales, analyses and conclusions/recommendations from your report. The Web pages should be written using valid HTML and CSS and should include an introduction page that has links to the pages that present the three statements with their rationales, analyses and conclusions/recommendations.
In developing the report you should make use of Excel and its functionality, and appropriate descriptive statistics. Your analyses should be well thought through, with a clear explanation of:
• ?why you have undertaken a particular analysis
• ?the conclusion(s) you may draw from its results
You are encouraged to write clear statements some of which may require the analysis of single data sets such as the age of students and others that highlight differences between various categories of data such as the proportion of students of different ages intending to do a placement.

For each statement you should:
• ?provide a clear rationale for its inclusion in the report. That is, describe why you believe it to be true before undertaking the analysis and why it is useful information to know
• ?apply the appropriate descriptive statistics
• ?report on the results
• ?confirm or reject the statement based on the results of the analysis
• ?derive relevant conclusions and recommendations from the analysis.
1. You are encouraged to develop new statements based on the analysis and conclusions of an existing statement. For example, in analysing the statement Students who live in halls of residence attend the university more frequently than those who don’t live in halls of residence you may discover that the distance from the university is an additional factor. This may lead to an analysis based on the following statement Students who live in halls of residence attend the university more frequently than those who don’t live in halls of residence.
Your First Draft Deadline: Tuesday 22nd March 2016 before 4pm (British Time) . I need to know what you have done so far rather than wasting time producing a report, which is irrelevant, and I need to show my lecturer a draft. Please produce a decent draft and make sure it makes sense. It doesn’t have to be fully completed but a decent amount just for a 2 days and a half work. Once you have completed a draft, please carry on with the report rather than waiting for feedback and my messages.
Your Second Draft Deadline: Friday 25th March 2016 before 11.59am (British Time). Please produce a decent draft by using the feedback from my lecturer. The more work you produce the better so that my lecturer can explain in more detail or ask to make adjustments and crop things out.
Your Final Deadline: In 10 days time so before Tuesday 29th March 2016 before 11.59pm (British time) the report needs to be fully completed to perfection. If I’m not fully satisfied then you will need to do re works where you will be given deadlines to complete it within 15 hours or less depending on my submission deadline date until I am fully satisfied with the report, so please do not waste time and leave it last minute and produce a first class standard quality to a very advanced level.
During the 10 days and after the 10 days I might upload more documents, which is relevant to the report, or something that can be very useful for you.
The document should include:
• ?the report which should be no longer than 3000 words in length (excluding appendices). The report should include the URL of the first page of your Web pages;
• ?The HTML and CSS code for the Web pages which should be presented in the appendices.
The report must include:

• ?A strong introduction that introduces the content of the report and its structure. (Note that this should be written once the other sections of the report have been completed.)

Please make sure you cover everything at a very advanced and first class standard. Read below
Statements and Rationales Excellent collection of statements supported by sensible rationales. One or more follow- on statements.
Strong analyses of Data A collection of correct analyses that use a range of statistics all of which are appropriate for the data and relevant to the statements. Clear confirmation or rejection of each statement using the (strong) analyses.
Conclusions and Recommendations Excellent and very advanced collection of strong conclusions and, where very appropriate, strong recommendation, each of which is supported by strong analyses.
Presentation and Structure Excellent grammar and sophisticated vocabularies, excellent structure and very advanced figures/tables used only where aid the readability of the report. Each section appropriately indexed and titled.
Please make sure you get it proof read so that it makes sense, be wise and sensible with the word count (Do not waste word count and remember no more than 3000 words). Please avoid plagiarism, so please make sure it doesn’t contain any. Avoid being repetitive throughout the report and how you begin with a sentence. You may use references ( Harvard referencing only if you used information and copied information from a source but it is not compulsory (I have selected 5 as in case you use references if it is necessary.) I DO NOT want an average or below average poor quality report so please make sure it is strong, flawless to perfection meeting everything on the 1st class marking criteria, the assignment brief, guidance on the assignment, my instructions and feedbacks to a 1st class standard. Please avoid using American English and spelling. For example:
I have highlighted in yellow because you will need to do the webpage last once you have completed the whole report. So, please leave it till your final deadline or after your final deadline. Please make sure you leave appropriate amount of word counts to write about the webpages if necessary. I will provide you more information about the webpages and the report once you have produced two drafts. I might have to upload more files for the webpages. For now focus on the whole report please.

As I am very busy at the moment because I have other commitments and big exams coming up very soon so I’m focusing on that for now.

Guidance on the assignment (Report)
This document provides general guidance on the Business Information Analysis assignment. It is presented in two sections:
A report is a document that is communicating the results of a project and, as such, it is important that its contents are accessible to the reader. It is therefore essential that it is written using correct grammar and that is appropriately structured. Poor grammar makes the content less accessible and may even result in misunderstanding. The reader does not want to have to determine what the author intended to say, and the author does not want the reader to imply their own meaning to what has been written. Both of these outcomes may be avoided by using the correct grammar. This will typically involve producing several drafts of the report.
Other more specific issues are:
• Typographical errors may give the impression that the report has not been appropriately checked.
• The first person – I – should not be used in a formal report.
• A report is presenting work that has been done. Therefore, one should use ”We
have…” and not use ”We will be…” in the report.
• Any graphic must be presented in an indexed and titled figure or table, and should fit within the margins of the report.

• A graphic should be referred to by its index. For example, ”It is clear from figure 1 that …”.
• Where sensible, always err on using a single graphic in place of multiple graphics. That is, a single bar chart, that presents the results from multiple groups, is typically more readable than multiple graphics that present the results for each group.
• Do not use a graphic to present one or two values and do not present the same data using more than one graphic.
• Do not report data in more than one form. For example, 70% (49) of students… and 30% (21) of students….
The structure of a report also has a significant impact on its readability. You should have sections that have a single and clear purpose, and, where possible, you should adopt a consistent repeating structure. Analyses should be presented separately to conclusions.
Other more specific issues are:
• An introduction should provide both an overview of the research that has been undertaken, and an overview of the structure of the report. That is, it should provide some information regarding the collection of the data and how it was analysed. It should also state how the report is structured – the titles of the sections and their content. Each section of the report should be numerically indexed.
• Each statement should be presented in its own subsection and be accompanied by a clear rationale. For example, if we have the statement Students who live in halls of residence attend the university more frequently than those who don’t live in halls of residence, then the rationale could include some comments about the students living close to the university. The rationale should not simply re-phrase the question, such as, We believe this statement is true because we want to know if students who live in halls of residence attend the university more frequently.
• The strong analysis should follow the rationale, and must focus solely on providing strong evidence to confirm or reject the statement. If there is some sensible further analysis to do then this should be associated with a follow-up statement.
• When using a more likely or more frequently statement, as illustrated above, the analysis must include a comparison of data from at least two groups. In this example, you should compare the results for students who live in halls of residence with those for students who do not live in halls of residence.
• When comparing data from two or more groups of differing sizes, one should use proportions or percentages to aid the comparison.
• The conclusions should reflect on the results. That is, if the analysis on the attendance statement meant the statement was rejected, then you should provide some comments explaining why this is the case. For example, all students recognise the importance of attendance at the university.
