Dissertation proposal on Social Networking
Background of the Study
In the modern world, web systems have been aligned to the urgent needs of organizations (Riketta and Nienber, 2007). Some of the major issues for organizations have been on privacy, recovery in case of loss, change management and the need to create a virtual network that connects the organization to the consumers worldwide. Innovation has been key to the development of such systems because of the numbers of equally attractive websites within the wider internet platform. Social networking has been a key link between organizations and communities (Wang and Barry 2010). Through the social networks, organizations are able to get varied responses needed by the research and development functions to help in the improvement of concepts and components the organization intends to offer.
On the other hand, the organization has been provided with a completely new channel of passing information to the ‘web communities’ efficiently and at very low costs compared to the traditional means of marketing. Social networking has, therefore, been an empowering tool for organizations looking to have a competitive edge in the industries they operate in.
Purpose and Significance
Organizations have today relied on the use of social networking as a means of marketing or information dissemination and exchange (Scott and Davis 2003). This study will be mostly focused on identifying relationships between individuals and commodities. In addition, it will provide some basic understanding of and the interest in web intelligence, collective intelligence and data mining. The study will also develop analytical skills as well as working knowledge in using some of the following: link analysis, formal concept analysis, SAS and click streams. This is because an average organization is bound to obtain a lot of data daily in terms of responses, enquiries and general comments concerning its products or services on offer. As a result, it is important that it relies on the most appropriate forms of ‘sifting’ through the bulk data and remain with the important data that can be used in decision making as well as strategy formulation.
Statement of the Problem
The research is concerned with creation of secure profiles that are able to tackle various challenges. Security, privacy and accuracy of information obtained are some of the few issues that organizations will constantly need to tackle for effective use and development of such networks to boost their functions. The use of modern technological evaluation tools like SAS will be used to analyze existing social networks of select organizations and recommendations made. Existing social media have registered numerous challenges related to phishing, racism, gender prejudice, and hate speech and hacking of users’ accounts. Such data, reported number of cases, will be analyzed using SAS.
The following are the main objectives of the study:
- To identify the threats of social networking for organization
- To analyze the most common techniques used to help organizations meet social networking challenges.
- To highlight the current weaknesses in the common forms of networks in use
- To develop a statistical map illustrating the various security threats in social networks.
