Effects Media Violence Has On the Twelfth Grader




In the United States children watch TV and play video games daily. Television can be a mighty advantage in the developing value schemes and shaping demeanor. Regrettably, the big part of the today’s television programming is brutal. Investigations of the effects of TV violence on kids and teenagers have found that kids may become insensitive to aggression. Consequently, they tend to accept violence as a way to explain difficulties by imitating the violence they observe on TV and the certain characters, good or awful, they recognize (Savage & Ferguson, 2012). As a result, extensive exposure to media violence causes greater aggressiveness among the twelfth graders. This research tries to answer what the effects of media violence on the twelfth graders are.

Statement of the Problem

The purpose of the research is to find out the effects of media violence has on the twelfth graders. The research will use three variables: independent, dependent and moderate ones. The independent variable will be the violence media, the dependent variable will be the behavior that arises from the media, and moderate variable will be the twelfth graders. The researcher controls the independent variable while the dependent variable will be caused by the independent variable. The moderate variable will explain the relationship between the independent and dependent variables.

The researchers will formulate the null and alternative hypothesis using the research question “What are the effects of media violence on the twelfth graders?” The null hypothesis (H0) will be “Media violence has no effect on the twelfth graders.” The alternative hypothesis (H1) will be “Media violence has effects on the twelfth graders.”



The research will seek to answer the research question, “What are the effects of media violence media on the twelfth graders?” The study will focus on the behavioral effects of exposing twelfth graders to too much media violence.

To carry out this study, the researchers will use a correlation research design. It was chosen because the research will focus on the relationship that exists between media violence and the behaviors of the twelfth graders who have frequent access to this media. The design is a quantitative approach that seeks to explain the effect-causal relations between the independent and the dependent variables (Ramsey & Schafer, 2012).


This study aspires at discovering the effect of media violence on the twelfth graders. The community of investigation will be the twelfth graders because the study is concentrated on the consequences of the newspapers violence exactly on this population.


The research applies to the twelfth graders. To create a good sample that is free from bias of the methods of sampling, the research will use the random sampling (Ramsey & Schafer, 2012). The researchers will select the twelfth graders from different geographical regions without using a predetermined method of selection. The samples are easier to pick at schools since this is where one is likely to find many twelfth graders with different backgrounds. To minimize the margin percentage error, the research will use a sample size of about five hundred twelfth graders. This will minimize percentage error to below five percent, increasing the reliability of the result (Ramsey & Schafer, 2012).


Procedures and Techniques

The study begins with the observation of problems that exist in the behavior of the twelfth graders. The behavior shows aggressiveness forming the main idea of the study that it may be caused by media violence. This study aims at finding the correlation that exists between behavior of children and access to media violence.

Usage of the same methods such as questionnaires and observation for the different groups of people helps the researchers to gather information. Because of this, the questionnaires will be provided for the two different groups of children: those who show aggression and those who do not. The aim of the procedure is to collect information on the number of hours the children access the different types of media. To collect reliable information, the research will also involve interviews with family members of the children, teachers and other close people. The purpose is to identify what type of media the most number of children have access to and what content they access most of the times.

After the data collection, the final stage of the research will be to analyze the data and information. To draw conclusions statistical methods such as correlation, standard deviation, average and skew will help determine whether media violence is the main cause of aggressive behavior among the children.


To determine the relationship that exists between media violence, the twelfth graders and aggressive behaviors, the study will use analytical surveys as the main instrument and research tool (Trochim & Donnelly, 2008). To measure the variables, the researcher will use an interval level means to determine the extent of change in behavior, for an increase in access to violence media.

Data Analysis

This is the final part of the research process. For this research central tendency measures such as standard deviation, averages, relative positions and correlations will analyze the effect of violence in the media on the twelfth graders. The mean determines the average number of the twelfth graders with aggressive behaviors caused by the media violence. Relative positions and correlations will determine whether the relationship between violence media and behavior of twelfth graders is a proportionate one or not.

The data analysis of this research will make use of inferential statistics (assumptions) that relate to the topic of study. These inferential statistics will be those that fit the nature of the hypothesis and research design such as t-tests (Trochim & Donnelly, 2008).


This study will answer the question, “What are the effects of media violence on the twelfth graders?” To answer this question, the researchers will use a correlation quantitative research methodology. This will help them determine whether there is any relationship between the twelfth graders behavior and media violence. The relationship that exists between the two variables will help them to accept or decline the null hypothesis (H0). The sample population will comprise of the twelfth graders because the focus of the study topic is on this group of people. To analyze the data researchers will make use of various mathematical and inferential statistics appropriate to this research.
