Parental responsibility according to law is the power, duties, authority and most important responsibility that a guardian or parent has over their child. They handle the child’s welfare. Parental responsibility is currently referred to as child custody (FAMILY RIGHTS GROUP). The nation’s authority protects the children and their interest. If the life or the future of the child is threatened, the state intervenes and ensure that the child is in the custody of better hands. Therefore, all parents should have good parenting skills to ensure a safe future for their children.

One of the key responsibilities of parentages is to ensure that their children are showed unconditional love. When a child experiences love from home, they can have very strong self-confidence. They learn to appreciate and love themselves. Love from parents creates a very strong bond. When you love them, they can understand what you do and why you do it. For instance, if the child has misbehaved and required correction when the parents punish the child he or she must take it positively. If there is no bond between the parent and child, the child will mistake the punishment for cruelty (Faull).

It is the responsibility of the parent to ensure that wherever the child is, he or she is safe. Children should at all times be protected from physical and emotional damage. Their life and safety should be a priority. However, the sense of security should not be overdone, sometimes they need own face their fears. It allows them grow in the proper manner. They need to play out with friends, socialize and also explore the world around them. All these will help them develop mentally and physically, but it should be supervised (Steinberg). They need to learn to own up at a very early age to build a strong personal character. Show them that whatever they do today affects their tomorrow, and you may not always be there. Assist them in planning their future.

Children are obliged to go to school and acquire education. It is the duty of the parent to ensure that it is done (Steinberg). It is the responsibility of the parent to take part in the child’s learning process. They learn how to speak, walk and even eat at home. The Influence of their homes is what defines their character as they grow older. Therefore, parents should take this type of responsibility seriously. They should teach them good morals at a tender age, teach them how to respond in different situations and most of all explain to them what they require to know. It is the easiest method of disciplining children. They learn from the examples parents portray. They learn that sometimes a parent must disagree with them and learn to accept situations as they are.

Conclusion

Most important, parents should remember that they are the ones who brought their children to this world. Hence, it is their responsibility and duty to ensure that they get the best to be the best. Children are very sensitive and should be handled with care. The same children are often the mirror of our families, homes, and the societies we reside. Therefore, all parents and guardians should start taking their parental responsibilities very seriously. Otherwise, the law will catch up and take away their children’s custody. Morally upright and healthy children mean a better and happier society in the future.
