Your discussion question for week three is about socially constructed realities. This concept was introduced by Berger and Luckmann’s (1966) Social Construction of Reality. The theory suggests that we construct our realities through our social interactions. Perhaps this explains why people in two different departments of an organization have different ideas about the corporate culture. Chapters five and six of Cummings and Worley introduce organizational diagnosis. In chapter five, we are introduced to a model that includes diagnosis at three levels: organizational, group, and individual. This model is carried over to chapter six, where the focus is on groups and jobs.
Look back at Figure 4.1, which introduces factors that affect client-practitioner dynamics. After reading chapters five and six, think about everything you have read so far.
